SC4 rises to university challenge in Winchester
Timber frame construction team provide students
with
first class accommodation
On behalf of its client Prestoplan Ltd, SC4 Carpenters Ltd has completed accommodation blocks that will house 395 students at Queens Road, Winchester. The principal contractor Cowlin Construction (Balfour Beatty Affiliated) set a tough challenge for the SC4 construction team on this project. Not only was the construction site on a 35% slope, it was three and a half weeks behind schedule when SC4 got started.

With an experienced team of qualified timber frame erectors, SC4 were soon able to get the 6-storey structures on all 7 blocks, circa 12,000 sqm of disproportionate collapse timber frame, back on track and completed on time in October 2009.
SC4 carried out many other projects in
conjunction
with the Queens Road project - notably the Deanery,
Southampton, where SC4 simultaneously provided
carpentry construction services for 171 mixed houses and
flats.
Recent statistics from the UK Timber Frame Association shows that timber frame buildings now account for over 25% of all new build and almost two-thirds of new buildings in the public sector.
